Understanding Proteins
Proteins are divided into two categories:
Animal-based proteins: Meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy products.
Plant-based proteins: Legumes, grains, nuts, seeds, and more.
Meat / Poultry / Turkey
While it is not recommended to consume them in large quantities, their importance is undeniable.
Protein from animal sources provides the body with the ability to build tissues, blood, hormones, and enzymes.
Meat significantly boosts immune system function, prevents anemia, and provides all types of B vitamins, which are crucial for the proper functioning of the body.
We prefer consuming turkey breast or chicken breast.
Fish
Fish are a high-quality source of complete protein. They improve memory and other brain functions, protect against heart disease, help prevent blood clots, protect against certain types of cancer, and reduce the risk of stroke.
Eat more fish! Fish that grow in cold waters can not only reduce the risk of heart problems but also improve other health aspects, such as mental performance and visual acuity.
Plant-Based Protein
There are two main advantages to eating plant-based protein on a regular basis:
-
The Nutritional Advantage: You are consuming complete protein that contains a large amount of dietary fiber and has a low fat percentage.
-
The Economic Advantage: A portion of cooked meat can cost 2 or 3 times more than a portion of legumes served with rice.
